Dissociation & Dissociative Disorders

Dissociation is often characterized by feeling separate from or disconnected from yourself, your body, or your experiences in the world. It often begins in response to overwhelming or unsafe experiences or environments and can look like "spacing out," losing time or having difficulty remembering things, or struggling to stay connected during stress. It can create difficulty staying present in your life and in your body, potentially contributing to challenges in relationships, with maintaining responsibilities, and in enjoying life and experiencing a sense of connection in general.

At ICW, we offer a warm, grounded space to explore these experiences with curiosity rather than judgment. We help clients understand the different ways dissociation can present in their lives and why it might have developed. Through a trauma-informed and parts-based approach, we help clients to experience reconnection and regulation at a pace that feels safe. In building internal safety and developing practical skills to help you ground and better regulate emotions, we aim to help you feel more connected and present in your daily life.
